You Can Buy A Copy of Newsweek for $6 but You Can Have the Whole Operation for $1

Yes, that's right. You missed a chance to buy a once great magazine for pocket change. But it's really not that great a deal since, apparently, the condition for selling for less than what the rolling stock is worth is a pledge to retain most of the present staff and the money losing editorial policy. There is a good story about all of the specifics at Hot Air.com.
So who would be dumb enough to take on this automatic money loser with a promise to keep the staff and the editorial policy that has caused it to lose tens of millions of dollars? The poor fool is the husband of doctrinaire lib congresswoman Jane Harman. Like the typical Democrat fat cat this guy seems to have more money than sense. So, for the foreseeable future it will remain the ObamaWeek Dem Party Line Rag.

"Take the Limbaugh Challenge" -- Startling LAT Headline

The Los Angeles Times opinion page today looked like something the guys at Hot Air might write. (Not Allahpundit but the good looking one, Ed.) The LAT telling the truth right out loud and in public has caused a lot of cognitive dissonance among conservatives. It is as if they were trying to throw us off just before a major attack. Though some people think this only happened because the Times has been losing money faster than Obama can print it.
It was by a conservative named Andrew Klavan. And it said some things that just never get said in the LAT. For instance:
“You're not a moderate or you wouldn't be reading this newspaper. You're not tolerant of a wide range of views; you are tolerant of a narrow spectrum of variations on your views. And, whatever you claim, you still haven't listened to Rush Limbaugh.
. . . . . . . .
“Now let me tell you the real answer: You're a lowdown, yellow-bellied, lily-livered intellectual coward. You're terrified of finding out he makes more sense than you do.”
But its main focus was on the intellectual dishonesty in recent liberal attacks on Rush Limbaugh. Here area couple of good quotes from the piece:
“Whenever I interrupt a liberal's anti-Limbaugh rant to point out that the ranter has never actually listened to the man, he always says the same thing: "I've heard him!"

“On further questioning, it always turns out that by "heard him," he means he's heard the selected excerpts spoon-fed him by the distortion-mongers of the mainstream media. These excerpts are specifically designed to accomplish one thing: to make sure you never actually listen to Limbaugh's show, never actually give him a fair chance to speak his piece to you directly.

“By lifting some typically Rushian piece of outrageous hilarity completely out of context, the distortion gang knows full well it can get you to widen your eyes and open your mouth in the universal sign of Liberal Outrage. Your scrawny chest swelling with a warm sense of completely unearned righteousness, you will turn to your second spouse and say, "I'm not a liberal, I'm a moderate, and I'm tolerant of a wide range of differing views -- but this goes too far!"“

That Chimp Cartoon: I Had Hoped I Could Just Ignore It

Jules Crittenden linked to a HuffPo story about how the chimp cartoon is causing embarrassment, shame and unhappiness in the staff at the NY Post. That might be true but who knows. Huffpo quotes two Post staffers. And one of the two is an anonymous source. And out of this tissue they construct a story whose main character is the HuffPooish guilt laden PC drama that is the blight of their lives. So at this point I only know something about HuffPo and one, possibly two people who work at the NY Post. So much capital out lay, so little information.
The cartoon is not even funny. I would never have given it a moments thought if it hadn't been for the martyr drama spun by Reverend Al, HuffPo and who ever else. The cartoon has nothing to do with Barack Obama. And the mental gymnastics that have been employed to make that connection have been either sad or ludicrous.
The POTUS chimp nexus is interesting. So many people give loud approval to anyone who will 'speak truth to power' and call Bush a chimp. The moral courage in spite of great danger to life and career involved in that very old joke is admirable. Oh, yes, the intellectual and moral reach required for that has been mastered by only 93% of most third grade classes (the rest are reading books or otherwise improving themselves).
Now maybe we could turn public discourse to something that matters or is reality based. Or a cartoon that is funny.

Credit where it's due [Mark Steyn]

I would like to thank the US media for doing such a grand job this last week of lowering expectations by portraying Governor Palin - whoops, I mean Hick-Burg Mayor Palin - as a hillbilly know-nothing permapregnant ditz, half of whose 27 kids are the spawn of a stump-toothed uncle who hasn't worked since he was an extra in Deliverance.

How's that narrative holding up, geniuses? Almost as good as your "devoted husband John Edwards" routine?
