Questions Inspired by the New Law in Arizona

This quote is from Fox News via Hot Air: "As San Francisco and other “sanctuary cities” declare war on Arizona over its new law cracking down on illegal immigrants, most state and local governments that provide a safe haven to undocumented workers refused to publicly roll out a welcome mat for the estimated 440,000 illegals in the Grand Canyon state.
"Several mid-size cities and states with policies that seek to protect undocumented workers either declined to comment to FoxNews.com on whether it would accept Arizona’s illegal immigrants or said the possibility had not been considered…"
Which makes one wonder why, if all the illegals are such a blessing, why those who used to be their supporters now want to pass on the great boon of receiving even more blessings. They don't just want to take a pass. They do not want to even discuss the issue.
Of course, we need to investigate how many Arizona state legislators have taken the National Socialist oath of loyalty. And we certainly need to find out which of them spent time in the Hitler Youth. But lets begin our journey in reality. Let's just ask why so many Democrats and RINOs would not take serious their oath to faithfully execute the laws. Since, let's face it, Arizona would not have passed that law if the federal government had been enforcing the laws that were needed to keep citizens safe from a tsunami of lawbreaking.

Persecution

"To punish a man
because he has committed a crime, or because he is believed,
though unjustly, to have committed a crime, is not persecution.
To punish a man, because we infer from the nature of some
doctrine which he holds, or from the conduct of other persons who
hold the same doctrines with him, that he will commit a crime is
persecution, and is, in every case, foolish and wicked."
. . . . . . .
"If, indeed, all men reasoned in the same manner on the same data,
and always did what they thought it their duty to do, this mode
of dispensing punishment might be extremely judicious. But as
people who agree about premises often disagree about conclusions,
and as no man in the world acts up to his own standard of right,
there are two enormous gaps in the logic by which alone penalties
for opinions can be defended. . . , Man, in short, is so
inconsistent a creature that it is impossible to reason from his
belief to his conduct, or from one part of his belief to another."

They Got Her Dead to Rights: Sarah Palin Supersizes Fries

Below is a something I posted on Oct. 25, 2008. It's still pretty funny. I didn't mention who wrote it. It was most likely Iowahawk.
** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** **

They Got Her Dead to Rights
Sarah Palin Supersizes Fries
By David Axelrod, Associated Press
Media
Bubble, Oct. 23 -- Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin
has come under fire in recent days after it was revealed that earlier
this year, a drive-through meal purchased by the Alaskan Governor
contained more than the usual number of french fries.
The discovery was made during a routine Associated Press search of
drive-through security camera footage obtained from the McDonald's
restaurant at 130 Front St. in Juneau, less than a mile from the
governor's mansion. On a tape from Feb. 15 of this year, a woman
closely resembling Palin can be seen speaking intently for several
seconds, pausing, and then nodding her head and smiling. According to
lip readers hired by the AP, the woman may very well have been saying,
"Oh, you betcha." And in subsequent interviews, restaurant staff have
identified the woman as the governor and confirmed that on the night in
question, Palin very likely would have been asked about her desired
number of fries.
After days of controversy and several evasions ("I sure don't
remember specific details about a fast food run I made last winter.
Aren't you being a little silly?"), Palin yesterday acknowledged
responsibility for her part in the culinary misappropriation widely
known as Deliciousgate.
"Okay, I remember now. Trig was kicking away something fierce, and I
really had a craving for a double cheeseburger," the former beauty
queen and killer of defenseless animals admitted. "Usually I try to eat
pretty healthy, but every once in a while you gotta treat yourself. And
I figured the little guy wouldn't mind. Todd said he wasn't really
hungry, but he could eat some fries maybe. So when the gal asked if I
wanted to supersize it, I figured we could just split the fries. Those
things are so tasty."
During an appearance in Indianapolis today, President Obama --
delivering his speech in front of his usual backdrop, an enormous
solid-gold statue of himself -- scoffed at the greasy slob's miserable
excuse for her career-ending irresponsibility.
"Sarah Palin says she's just an ordinary working-class American.
[laughter] Now it turns out she eats strips of potato that have been
fried and salted. And if somebody offers her more of them for a
slightly higher price... that's just fine with her. [boos] Go
along, get along, eh, Governor? Are you going to throw away the
American people's money too? We cannot afford to have this woman in the
White House. Er, I mean a cancer-ravaged heartbeat away from the White
House."
Pres. Obama then emitted a discreet puff of arugula-scented flatulence, curing a nearby blind child

I will vote Obama

I will vote Obama

I will vote for a man I know nothing about

I will vote because it is time for a black man in the White House

I will vote for a man I really haven't researched, and I really don't want to know anything bad about

Because I will feel noble and good that I voted for a black man

or a man who definitely is NOT George Bush

I will vote for a man whose mother left America on purpose and stated the Americans around her in Indonesia were "not her people"

I will vote for a man whose father and stepfather were not Americans or Christians even though I felt uncomfortable about that Romney fellow and his Mormonism

I will vote for a man whose father figure mentor in Hawaii was a communist and hated America and "white oppression"

I will vote for a community organizer, even though I don't know what that is

Saul Alinksy is the creator of the community organizer concept

I will not Google Saul Alinsky

I will not Google ACORN

I will vote for a man who ran unopposed for his Illinois State Senate Seat

I will not Google how that happened to occur

I will vote for a man who allies himself with an unrepentant radical terrorist

But he is an "education reformer" now!

I will not Google Bill Ayers enough to find out what he wants to reform public education into

although my children go to public schools

I will vote for a man who listened to Reverend Jeremiah Wright for 20 years

I certainly will NOT Google Black Liberation theology, white oppression, and Marxism in the same search!

I will feel good about myself after I vote Obama

who is not George Bush

I will feel good that America voted for Obama

I will await the praise from the world's opinion of us on our wise choice...

I will be surprised when they still hate us

I will be surprised when I start to hate who I voted for

I will vote "anybody but Obama" in 2012

Mark Steyn on Clinton's Latest Lecture and on Comedy Central's Surrender to Intimidation

Here are a couple of good quotes from a great column by Steyn in today's Real Clear Politics:

So enough with all the punch-pulling about seditious racist homophobes.
It was time to go for broke, and bring out Bill Clinton to explain why the Tea Party is the new front in the "war on terror." Don't worry about Iran's nuclear program, but , if you meet a Tea Party supporter waving some placard about the national debt, try not to catch his eye and back away slowly without making any sudden movements lest he put down his placard and light up his suicide belt.
As longtime readers know, I have enormous respect for the Democrats as masters of the politics of personal destruction. What a track record!
"Bushitler" ... "General Betray-Us" ... Excellent stuff, up there with Oscar Wilde. But this is, like, a whole new level: Bill Clinton is on the road, demonizing (and with an impressively straight face) half the American people as the express lane to ka-boom! And the poodle media are taking it seriously.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
If the Tea Partiers were truly the murderous goons they've been portrayed as, they would draw the obvious lesson from the kid gloves with which Comedy Central strokes Islam. They would say, "Enough with peaceful rallies where we pick up the litter afterwards. Let's just threaten to decapitate someone. You get more respect that way. At least from the media."
But they won't do that. Because, notwithstanding their outrageous demonization by the media, they're not terrorists. So, in the end, Comedy Central has incentivized Islamic violence and nothing much else.
Nevertheless, we should be grateful to its jelly-spined executives for reminding us that the cardboard heroes of the American media are your go-to guys for standing up to entirely fictitious threats. But for real ones? Not so much.

Great discussion. I especially liked when MLK said that his nonviolent methods brought up many tensions but they had not created these tensions. The tensions were there before he came along and he only made them more apparent. The same could be said of the Tea Parties. The Democrats and much of the media want to portray tea partiers as the creator of the tensions with a view to silencing any opposition to their hold on power.

That Story About the Beating of the Jindal Aide in New Orleans Just Will Not Die

It is getting more complicated as there is now question as to whether or not the police were not making it seem less serious in an attempt to down play its severity as a part of a systemic practice of statistical manipulation. There continue to be reports that the victims believe it was politically motivated and committed by individuals protesting at the Republican fund raiser. At the Hatride there is a long post that is an accumulation of many strands and stories from many sources. Go there to get the full story. One quote from Hayride:
"But while the Yahoo! News story appears to grudgingly admit the obvious, that the protestors at Brennan’s produced the attack, reporter Bret Michael Dykes still manages to inject an obnoxious and insulting paragraph toward the end of the piece: "Of course, even if Bautsch and Brown’s recollection is correct and the attackers did come from the group protesting the event, they can’t know for sure what their motives were. Their account of the non-political nature of the verbal assault matches the one Brown gave police and the homophobic, misogynistic nature of the insults would be unusual coming the kind of person one might expect to protest a Republican fundraiser."
"So anarchist thugs who attack people on the streets for their political beliefs are still morally superior because only Republicans are homophobes and misogynists? Seriously? This actually made it into a story Yahoo ran on their site?"

Yahoo displays a typical leftie tone deafness.

Doctor Zero: What JFK Would Have Seen As A Challenge Obama Sees As An Inescapable Burden

Good column today at Hot Air by the always pungent Doctor Zero about Barack Obama's recent reflections on America's superpower status. Two small quotes from the post:
. . . the President said: " It is a vital national security interest of the United States to reduce these conflicts because whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant military superpower, and when conflicts break out, one way or another we get pulled into them. And that ends up costing us significantly in terms of both blood and treasure."
. . . . . . . .
There’s nothing factually incorrect about what the President said. It’s the tired, bloodless way he said it that provoked a sharp Sarah Palin response. It was a far cry from the way someone like JFK or Reagan would address the same topic. They would have seen the responsibility of power as a challenge we should rise to meet, with confidence and determination, and offered thanks to God that America is the nation entrusted with this challenge.
Sadly, the America of new frontiers and bright mornings was long ago. Today we live in Hospice America, where caretakers with first-class temperaments and sharply creased trousers make us comfortable in the face of inevitable decline… and forward the bills for our end-of-greatness care to our children, who will go bankrupt paying them.

Ben Bernanke Has Suddenly Discovered We Have An Incredibly Large Amount of Debt

I guess he just didn't see this developing until a couple of days ago. On April 15 his boss was telling us that we should be thanking him for lowering taxes. And now, out of nowhere, Bernanke is telling us why we need to raise taxes. In a relatively small piece that covers the genesis of our mind bogglingly large debt as well as some of its psychological and sociological aspects, the PJTV column Roger's Rules looks at the debt situation. Here's one long quote from the post:
". . . Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, is warning about the deficit. The man we pay to preside over the country’s money supply has had the amazing revelation that a $1.6 trillion deficit might impede economic recovery. Amazing!
ow do you suppose Mr. Bernanke’s testimony fits into the narrative being woven by the Obama administration? Try this on: the President embarks on a spending spree the dimensions of which are unprecedented in U.S., indeed, in world history, committing us to trillions—that’s “trillions” with an “s”—in “stimulus” packages, bailouts, cash-for-clunkers, cash for socialized medicine, etc., etc. Then he and his minions turn around and point out we are deep, deep, deep in debt. How’d that happen? No one seems to remember. The bottom line, however, is that now you—i.e., we—must pay. And pay. And pay.
"It’s really a breathtaking performance. They rack up several trillion dollars in debt. Then, like the rat who invites you to lunch and then announces he has forgotten his wallet, they stick us with the bill. (The analogy is imperfect and unfair to the rat: at least with him you did get lunch.) “So sorry, we hate to raise taxes, but we just discovered this gigantic deficit and unless we take more of your money, we won’t be able to go on spending, spending, spending like there’s no tomorrow mad that wouldn’t be fair would it?”
“But,” you point out, “taxes haven’t really risen yet.”
"Precisely. And yet even so here’s an ordinary slob like me feeling like Boxer in Animal Farm. What happens when the taxer-in-chief really gets going?
"It was at this point in my musings that I thought about the 19th-century English essayist William Hazlitt: “those who lack delicacy,” he pointed out, “hold us in their power.” Early on in the Obama administration, Governor Mitch Daniels spoke about Obama’s “shock and awe statism.” The staggering spending programs. The government takeover of health care. The cap-’n-trade initiative. The destruction of thousands of perfectly good automobiles for the sake of a “green economy.” It has been difficult to keep up. It’s been a veritable Blitz: the spending, the world tyrants tour, the sudden coolness to Israel and Great Britain, the announcement that our nuclear arsenal is basically just for show, the coddling of terrorists: we now see just how much in earnest Obama was when, a few days before the election, he told his followers that they were on the threshold of “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”"

Obama Targets Wall Street

****** ****** ******
When an accomplished and effective manipulator comes at you they will tell you how intelligent and good looking you are with honeyed flattery that they hope will turn off your critical thinking. Then they will tell you all the wonderful things they are going to do for you and paint you a lovely picture of the bountiful new world you will soon live in thanks to them. Well in a radio address Obama would look dumb telling me how attractive and intelligent I am but he really lays it on with the rosy picture of all the wonderful things he’s going to do for me. Do I even deserve a president who cares so much about my every little need?
The problem is that now I have some real history with which to judge whether or not he’s telling me the truth. He talked for ever about how I needed him to pass a health care reform bill so that the growing costs of health care do not crush our economy. As near as I can tell his health care ‘fix’ is going to end up being more expensive than the cost of doing nothing. They cobbled together a gigantic mess that few if any congressmen even read before voting on. I doubt that Obama himself read all of the final bill. But it creates many new federal bureaus and employees and requires 16,500 more IRS agents to collect the new revenue from many different tax sources. And millions more will be forced to buy health insurance. And, to escape large federally imposed penalties, they will not even be allowed much freedom of choice: the federal bureaus and panels and IRS agents will tell you what coverage you must have. Do I even deserve a president who cares so much about my every little need?
So he repeatedly promised to lower health care costs but then raised them as soon as he got a chance to put his stamp on the process. Now, why should I expect that any promise he makes is anything but manipulation? It is becoming obvious that he wants to pass a big new package of laws constraining Wall Street. But his past behavior tells me that the rosy promises he is making me of a bountiful future is probably just an attempt to manipulate me into dropping my critical thinking on the issue. It has been suggested that Wall Street has just been chosen as a convenient demon. It is easy to get people riled up against them and a big, loud push can take the national attention off what an utter failure the final form of the health care bill is. I have to also wonder if it is not also a Chicago style campaign finance push: letting Wall Street know that if they do not let go of many, many large chunks of money that he will choke them to death legislatively and with regulations. What did I do to deserve a president who puts his own interests so consistently ahead of mine?

********************************
UPDATE
********************************

Now, after the health care bill has been passed, the NYT has begun reporting honestly about how much more expensive this law will be than what the president promised 4,863 times. Yet another case of 'Only the News That Fits.'

Krauthammer on Obama's Nuclear Posturing as an Attempt at Misdirection

Basically the K-hammer says in a Townhall piece that nothing of any moment was achieved, the really dangerous nuclear issues that face us were not even on the agenda and it was just an act of misdirection to try and convince us that progress is being made: a typical Obama shell game.To some degree it worked since the Obama peanut gallery in the MSM is acting like this was an act of statesmanship while pretty much ignoring the details of the agreement and the realities on the ground. Read the whole piece. Here are some pertinent quotes:
What was this great convocation about? To prevent the spread of nuclear material into the hands of terrorists. A worthy goal, no doubt. Unfortunately, the two greatest such threats were not even on the agenda.
The first is Iran, which is frantically enriching uranium to make a bomb, and which our own State Department identifies as the greatest exporter of terrorism in the world.
Nor on the agenda was Pakistan's plutonium production, which is adding to the world's stockpile of fissile material every day.
..............................
So what was the major breakthrough announced by Obama at the end of the two-day conference? That Ukraine, Chile, Mexico and Canada will be getting rid of various amounts of enriched uranium.
What a relief. I don't know about you, but I lie awake nights worrying about Canadian uranium. I know these people. I grew up there. You have no idea what they're capable of doing. If Sidney Crosby hadn't scored that goal to win the Olympic gold medal, there's no telling what might have ensued.
...............................
The appropriate venue for such minor loose-nuke agreements is a meeting of experts in Geneva who, after working out the details, get their foreign ministers to sign off. Which made this parade of world leaders in Washington an exercise in misdirection -- distracting attention from the looming threat from Iran, regarding which Obama's 15 months of terminally naive "engagement" has achieved nothing but the loss of 15 months.
ndeed, the Washington summit was part of a larger misdirection play -- Obama's "nuclear spring." Last week, a START treaty, redolent of precisely the kind of Cold War obsolescence Obama routinely decries. The number of warheads in Russia's aging and decaying nuclear stockpile is an irrelevancy now that the existential U.S.-Soviet struggle is over. One major achievement of the treaty, from the point of view of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, is that it could freeze deployment of U.S. missile defenses -- thus constraining the single greatest anti-nuclear breakthrough of our time.

UPDATE on Attack on Jindal Aide in French Quarter

Allee Bautsch's leg was broken in 5 places and Joe Brown, her boyfriend, had his nose broken according to Bautsch's mother when she was interviewed by Megan Kelly. Michelle Malkin counsels caution in the treatment of this story. It seems that the info about political insults preceding the attack is possibly questionable and not firmly enough founded as yet. Malkin writes:
"This was a terrible crime in the crime-infested French Quarter. Your heart cannot help but go out to the victims after reading this description. They deserve non-partisan compassion and prayers for healing.
"It doesn’t help to insist on making this a partisan cause celebre and reducing the victims to political pawns when the evidence remains murky — and especially when one of the victims himself heard no politically-motivated taunts.
"Save the ideological outrage for bona fide cases of politically motivated violence."

Political Violence in New Orleans that Goes Unreported by the MSM Because It Does Not Fit Their Prejudices and the Story They Are Trying to Sell

Here is some actual political violence with a concussion and a broken leg. This is not the stuff of the MSM that is just 'hate speech' that none of a dozen video cameras were capable of capturing. (By the way, Andrew Breitbart is still willing to pay $100,000 to anyone who can produce actual evidence of the hate crime that the networks have claimed happened on Capitol Hill. The fact that this money has gone unclaimed is more newsworthy than what has been reported by the networks.)
The Hayride which calls itself asite of "news and commentary on Louisiana and national politics" had this photo of Jindal aide Allee Bautsch and her boufriend, Joe Brown after they had been beaten up by 5 attendees at a political rally. Hayride states, "A frequent reader and usually reliable source to the Hayride passes along a possible explanation of how the attack happened (and this substantially fits with what we’ve been told by a couple of other people we’ve talked to on background):You might be interested in a comment that showed up under the Times-Picayune’s last article which contained that photo of the crime scene. A commenter who calls himself lernedlesson and who is usually in the know posted that he heard from a co-worker who knows Joe Brown and has talked to him since the incident. Brown confirmed that it was a political attack and that he thought the culprits had been at the protest. There were five of them, and when they started trash-talking to the couple he told her to run for the car. She was attacked by one of them and the other four went after him."
Hayride also had this quote from the Times-Picayune: "Yes, there is more to this story. A co-worker, who went to college with the boyfriend, was relating what he was told when he talked to him. It WAS political, as the attackers were recognized as protesters at the fund-raising event, and there were 5 attackers, not 3. The couple realized they were being stalked after being berated for their political affliations and support of Jindal. The bf told the gf to run for their car; 4 of the attackers lit into the bf, beating him to the point of concussion; and the last tracked down the gf. She broke her leg when he bashed her to the ground."
Early on there was a report that the attack was caused by the couple's wearing of Palin pins but there do not appear to be any such pins in evidence in the photo.

What are the chances that this will get any network news coverage? You can rest assured that it will get less coverage than the nonexistent N-words on Capitol Hill a couple of weeks ago. What are the chances that Madow and Olbermann will appologize for the violence their anti-Republican hate speech has generated?

Asking Questions, Expressing An Opinion on How My Congressman Votes and Disagreeing With the Washington Elite Has Become Hating the Government????

Drudge linked a piece from the Washington Examiner by Chris Stirewalt titled 'Hating the Government Finally Goes Mainstream.' Here is a long quote that has some insight into the past two years:
"It turns out that watching Goldman Sachs, the United Auto Workers, public employee unions and a raft of other vampires drain the treasury at America's weakest moment in a generation will make a person pretty hacked off.
"After Barack Obama's election, Democrats assumed that the American people were battered, bruised and ready for a morphine drip of European-style socialism. Republicans, shocked by their stunning reversals, figured the Democrats were right and started looking for technocrats of their own.
"And in a political system fueled by special-interest money, it was hard for the leaders of major parties to imagine anything other than an activist government. After all, if you pay for someone to get elected, you don't expect him to just sit there.
Just 18 months ago the leaders of both parties were quite sure that Obama would be the popular, transformative president he aspires to be. The Republicans who emerged from the wreckage of November were certain to look a lot more like Charlie Crist and Mitt Romney than Marco Rubio and Ron Paul.
"But Crist's embrace of Obamanomics seems to have utterly destroyed his chances at a Senate seat that was once his for the taking. Romney, considered a near lock for the 2012 Republican nomination, has seen his candidacy badly damaged by a populist revolt against the passage of a national health care plan that looks like the one he designed for Massachusetts.
"Obama, who said that passage of his health plan proved that Washington could still do big things, finds himself deeply at odds with an electorate that is not confident of government's ability to do anything at all.
"His election has turned out to be not the result of a national lurch toward government intervention but his own skill at disguising his policies, the failures of the Republican Party and the bursting of the lending bubble."

The piece makes a lot of sense but the headline seems a little out of place. It makes a gratuitous leap that equates having a different point of view from those presently in Congress the same as hating the government. This is just sloppy thinking and a sneaky below the belt punch. Just because I don't think that government operates best by bribery, secrecy and legislative trickery does not mean I hate government. I do not like the crimes and manipulations of the gang of clowns that are presently in office. I think government should never be trusted. It is just a collection of flawed men and women who need to be watched. And if you cannot see the wisdom of that I do not think that I am the problem.

To a Friend whose Work has come to Nothing

NOW all the truth is out,
Be secret and take defeat
From any brazen throat,
For how can you compete,
Being honour bred, with one 5
Who, were it proved he lies,
Were neither shamed in his own
Nor in his neighbours’ eyes?
Bred to a harder thing
Than Triumph, turn away 10
And like a laughing string
Whereon mad fingers play
Amid a place of stone,
Be secret and exult,
Because of all things known 15
That is most difficult.

Greta Examines Health Care Sausage Making and Ben Nelson Plays Dumb

This link is to a thirty minute long interview of Sen. Ben Nelson conducted by Greta Van Susteren. It can be mind numbing at times. As Greta tries to find out exactly what happened, the closer she comes to anything that might be embarrassing or illegal the dumber Nelson acts. I came away feeling that Nelson had only a cursory knowledge of what was in the bill he voted for. He has a very high opinion of himself and his own motives and will not speak ill of another Democrat. He claims that his main concern was to keep the federal government from taking over the nation's health care system.
Nelson says he was a little concerned that all states will be saddled with an enormous unfunded mandate and that he was acting to keep that from happening. But he will admit that he did not bring that about. In the end he gave Harry Reid his vote and Nebraska was given $100 million dollars but nothing was done for any other states. Oh, and also the DNC spent $500,000 on political ads for Nelson which ran in Nebraska even though he is not up for reelection again until 2012.
As Greta said, "It does look funny." And he had no answer to that. About ten minutes before that, as Greta slowly circled her quarry and kept poking at it, Nelson became more and more fidgety. It is really too bad about the fidgeting and on and off dumb act because he claims total innocense and rather high motives yet he acts like a guilty person: go figure.
I've never watched Greta much. But I had to admire her ability to have someone lie to her face and not take it at all personally. She just remaimed focused on getting the story as clearly as she could from Nelson. But there just isn't much story to be had from the senator. He was in these meetings but he sure does not know much of what happened and will not name any one else who participated besides Reid. He doesn't know much about the health care bill that he voted for. He claims to not know who wrote the bill. He does know and frequently reminds us that he had only the highest of motives. But he claims that much of the good he tried so hard to accomplish could not be included in the bill because there were deadlines that had to be met. He does admit that the deadlines were arbitrary. And he doesn't know or will not share exact knowledge of who created these deadlines. Which is too bad since there was so much good he wanted to do for all Americans if only he had not been kept from acting by arbitrary deadlines created and enforced by showdowy persons or forces. Oh well, at least this great and patriotic American got the $100 million for Nebraska and $500,000 for his own campaign chest.

Cover Up by the NYT

The American Spectator has a story about a cover up by the New York Times:
"There are, in fact, at least three scandals here. One, that a priest molested boys thirty years ago, is scandal to be sure, but alas, hardly news now, given the number of such stories over the past decade -- including one in California that came to light only this past week.
"The second, and underlying, scandal is that it's the homosexuals allowed into the priesthood in the sixties who have been causing most of the trouble.
"Are all homosexuals child molesters? Certainly not.
"Are most child molesters in the Catholic Church homosexuals? Almost certainly."
The full story bears reading. I was alerted to this story by Pundit and Pundette. On the right side of the page Jill at P & P keeps up to date links of some of the most interesting and relevant posts from around the net.
Here are two more quotes from the Am Spec story:
"The pedophilia story really begins more than forty years ago, when the Roman Catholic Church began accepting known homosexuals into the priesthood. The traditionalists objected, but the sixties were when enlightened, progressive, sophisticated life began. Like children who think they are the very first to discover sex, the sixties' liberals thought that any restrictions on what homosexuals could do must be wrongly discriminatory. For a liberal, everything goes. So, everything went, including homosexuals to seminaries.
"In the years since then, we -- the Catholic Church in particular, but all of us, really -- have reaped the fruits of what was sown in those turbulent years."

......................................................
"In fact, wouldn't it make sense to pay special attention to the assignments given to homosexual priests until it was certain that they were not more likely to molest children than normal priests?
"Not, apparently, to the New York Times. That would require it to be critical of supervisors who failed to identify priests who were homosexual and who assigned them to positions where they could abuse children. It's much easier for the Times simply to pile on after the abuses have happened, and write about a cover-up.
What is the primary public-policy goal of a news story that exposes a cover-up? Presumably, to put future offenders (or their superiors) on notice that eventually they are likely to be detected and perhaps punished. The hope is that that knowledge might make those in positions of authority more vigilant in assigning, supervising, and punishing priests who might abuse children.
"But wouldn't identifying the likely perpetrators, or a class of people likely to be perpetrators, and supervising them more carefully before they perpetrate be even more likely to serve the public policy of preventing abuse of children?
Again, surely yes.
"And that is the third, and most serious, scandal. There is almost surely a cover-up here. But it's a cover-up by the New York Times of a group of people whose lifestyle the Times celebrates. The Times seems to be more interested in protecting its friends in the homosexual community than the youngsters in churches -- and in any other institutions where they might fall victim to predatory homosexuals."

From Today's Cross Talk Devotional

From Cross Talk:
What seems to elude most Christians today is daily experience of living in the reality of the supernatural. We can polish and refine our doctrinal statements and discuss the finer points of what's going on in the world and what to do in our institutions and churches until the cows come home. But what often gets crowded out of the picture is the simple reality of God. When that happens, the world successfully squeezes us into its way of thinking.

"Our generation is overwhelmingly naturalistic [i.e. everything is the result of natural causes in a closed system]. If we are not careful, even though we say we are Biblical Christians and supernaturalists, nevertheless the naturalism of our generation tends to come in upon us."

Schaeffer compares this creeping in of the world's naturalistic mindset to barnacles that grow on the bottom of ships, creating drag on vessels that were meant to efficiently cut through the water. As an antidote, he points us to classic Bible texts that teach the nearness of the supernatural all around us.

For example, Luke's passage on the post-resurrection appearance of Jesus to two disciples walking on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:31) says that their eyes were opened and they realized it was Jesus, then He ceased to be seen by them. Paraphrasing Schaeffer: "It wasn't that Christ was no longer there, but that they simply did not see Him any longer. John 20:19 and 26 gives the same emphasis."

Another classic text that Schaeffer takes us to is 2 Kings 6:16-17 where Elisha is surrounded by an enemy, and the young man standing with him is overcome with fear. "Elisha prayed and said, ‘O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.' So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha."

"The supernatural was not something far off; it was there. All the young man needed was to have his eyes opened to see it. As soon as we remove the supernaturalness of the universe, all we have left is Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, in which religion is to be simply a sociological tool for the future… a mere psychological mechanism."

Schaeffer rightly notes that this is precisely where the battle rages today. The naturalists are determined to get rid of the supernatural, to argue against it, that it is not there. Therefore…

"…we have thrust upon us the necessity, the high calling and the duty to live in light of the existence of the two parts of the universe, the seen and the unseen parts, in the realization that the "heavenlies" are not far off. They are about us here."

Losing the reality of the supernatural is not a small matter. It is not an optional feature of true spirituality. When that is absent from our experience, all we are left with is a dead sociological tool; a mere psychological mechanism for manipulating ourselves and other people. As the Apostle Paul said, "If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied." (

NY TIMES PROFILE: ‘WHY I JOINED THE TEA PARTY’

I was surprised by this one. The NYT did a story on Tea Party members and I detected no lies or distortions. It's probably just an anomaly. We are given the story of two rather normal working folks that are bothered by events and what they have been doing about it.

crashtheteaparty.org Recruiting People to Create False Evidence of Racism and Hate in the Tea Parties

The photo is of Josh Levin. He is the man who registered the crashtheteaparty.org website that is urging people to pose as members of Tea Parties and create false evidence of racism, hate, etc. NewsBusters says:
"Blogger Glenn Reynolds spotted CrashTheTeaParty.org today, a website that claims to represent "a nationwide network of Democrats, Republicans and Independents who are all sick and tired of that loose affiliation of racists, homophobes and morons; who constitute the fake grassroots movement, which calls itself 'the Tea Party.'"
"Their plan is to "infiltrate" Tea Party protests to create the false impression that protesters are racists by … being racists. That's right, they will bring with them offensive signs and give wildly offensive interviews to reporters, all with the intention of smearing a movement that wouldn't bring those signs or give those interviews themselves. It remains to be seen whether the mainstream media will take the bait."
Take a look at the saboteur's site here.
In spite of Levin's attempt to hide his identity as Ben Franklin of Philadelphia freerepublic was able to trace Levin's responsibility for the creation of the sabotaging site.
Honest Tea Party attendees should be on the lookout for Levin. It would not hurt to put anything suspicious on camera as long as no one endangers their own physical safety.

But one has to ask why evidence must be falsely created. Isn't that itself proof that the Tea Party movement is NOT everything its lying enemies say it is? By their dishonest methods have they not proved that they are the greater danger to the republic?

Growth from Loneliness and Pain

Recently I have been searching the net for good sites for materials for a morning devotional. Today's entry at christianity.com was good. Here is some of it:

"The more I read the biographies of those who have achieved great things for God, the more I realise that their deep knowledge of Him came, in part, out of moments of profound loneliness. It was in such moments that "the God of remarkable surprises" revealed Himself and gave them an understanding of His grace and power such as they could never otherwise have known. Is it not true that God's glory bursts through most powerfully when the sky is at its darkest? Does not His strength uphold us most when we are feeling weak and inadequate? And does not His love penetrate most deeply when we feel unloved or isolated from others? When we are prepared to die to our own interests and are willing to follow our Lord fearlessly along the path which He sees is best for us, we experience, not just temporal, but eternal rewards. The seed that falls into the ground and dies is the one that yields a rich and bountiful harvest. Many of us fail to be fruitful in our Christian life and experience because we are afraid or unwilling to face the issues which demand a whole-hearted commitment to the will of God. We save ourselves - and then what? We finish up by not liking the self we have saved. Make no mistake about it - God's way is best, even though a thousand hardships beset the path."
