May Day Demonstrations in Boston

I think the hollowness of the labor movement is shown by leadership's emphasis on ideology over the best interests of their members. SIEU has taken tens of millions of their dues and just given them to politicians while leaving members' pension funds criminally underfunded. At the same time millions of American workers live in despair of finding work soon but their 'leaders' want to spend money and energy keeping illegal aliens employed. American workers need labor leaders who are interested in protecting them.

Union Dues Elected Obama and Now He Will Take Their Health Benefits Too

I got this from a link at Pundit and Pundette. The material within quotes is from Doug Ross @ Journal.
"Remember how the President endlessly bragged that health care reform would never -- never! -- impact your existing health plans? You know, the "if you like your plan, you can keep it" shtick? Well, I know this comes as a shock, but he lied.
"What no one appears to be pointing out is that DemCare specifically targets private sector union members first. Because of the dizzying new regulations imposed by the new law, "industrial concerns [and/or] those with unionized employees, say the end of the deduction could force them to ... curtail or even cancel them [health benefits]," according to The Los Angeles Times. That's right: most union retirees will have their cushy plans slammed by DemCare through changes in the tax code."
Unions expected to be especially hard hit are Communication Workers of America, United Steelworkers. and Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers (OCAW) union
".Put simply, their promised benefits will be slashed and they'll be forced onto the government-run program. Oh -- and the government-run program will have 30 million more people on the books and spend $500 billion less on seniors, even as the need dramatically increases for the elderly.
'Union members, it's time you started kicking the crap out of your union bigwigs -- politically speaking -- because:
'They. Sold. You. Out.'
It would be funny except it will have real life and death consequences for millions of families. Because the members of these and so many other unions trusted their leaders and did not perform any due dilligence beyond backing the availabel democrat, Obama is having his 'great victory' at their expense. It is at their expense first because they will lose real benefits. But the real irony comes because Obama is in office because union bosses took hundreds of millions of dollars in union dues and gave them to this buffoon Obama so her could win the election and then sell out those who financially supported his victory.

Interview With Steven Rattner; You Do Have To Wonder Why Ron Gettelfinger Still Has A Job

A video of a Fortune interview with Steven Rattner, former head of President Obama's auto task force at the Treasury Department. He talks about how bad the management of the auto companies was but is a little sparse on the details. I was surprised to see one Obama's economic team get so close to criticizing a big union.

Professionalism, Unions and Teachers

If you are a union member you are not a professional.
If you punch a time clock you are not a professional.

History Rewritten In Plain View

Hey, ya know like love is hate and war is peace, dude.

And if you don't believe Barack, he and his teacher's unions will continue the dumbing down until the evening news is just too intellectually challenging.

SEIU Threatening California Legislators

I say throw the bunch of them out. These legislators are the ones who continually gave in to almost any demand from the unions and ruined the once vibrant California economy in the process. Any help from the unions in removing them will be appreciated.

Card Check Push by Harkin

Sometimes dKos has useful info. Senator Tom Harkin who is trying to ram card check through the Senate recently said, “If senators refuse to compromise, if they refuse to come to the table in good faith, I will take the original bill to the floor and demand an up-or-down vote. We will see where everyone stands, and working people can vote accordingly.”
I take this to mean that he has been unsuccessful in manipulating the committee process. No doubt there are Democrats who are against it but would prefer not to have that opposition registered in a floor vote.
I’m reposting below the clip of union goons speaking so highly of this assault on the self-determination of workers.

I'm also going to reproduce one of my posts from a couple of months ago.

Democrat Lawmakers Threatened With 'Targeting' If They Oppose Card Check

Are they worried they might not pull it off? Is the great Obama majority evaporating before they have finished their wish list? Do I detect some fear and desperation in congress?
The below is taken exactly from Newsbusters:

"Look no further for evidence of how important EFCA has become to liberals than Schultz threatening on March 11 to "take out" Democrats who don't toe the line

"'If there is any Democrat in the House or the Senate that doesn't line up for the Employee Free Choice Act, I promise you we will take you out. I promise you we will target you and I don't care you who are, how long you've been there, I will get the unions together and if you're a Democrat and you don't support the Employee Free Choice Act, we will take you out. You're either with us or you're against us.'"

And here's a clip about card check in action in a factory.

Is There ANYTHING Obama Won't Do For The Unions?

There must be a bunch of stuff he owes the unions for that we don't even know about.

SEIU Tries To Steal Education Funding

Here in California the state lottery was passed into law to provide funding only for education. But the SEIU is spending s lot of money to pass a ballot initiate that would 'borrow' the education money to keep more union members in their jobs. Warner Todd Huston did a story on it on Stop the ACLU. Here are a couple of quotes:

The California State lottery is apparently in the purview of the state’s employees union, the Service Employees International Union. At least it is as far as the SEIU is concerned. Proving once again that unions think everything in the world is their business, the California SEIU has donated $300,000 to Proposition 1C, a ridiculous plan that would empower the state capitol at Sacramento to “borrow” up to $5 billion from state lottery coffers.
. . . . . . . .
So, why does this union think it has any say in what goes on with the CA lottery? Are there jobs involved? Is there work rules or state laws concerning such things involved? Nope. It’s all just a giant money grab by the unions that want to take that state money for its own members.
But here is the main point I’m making: unions have metastasized from worrying about employees and their places of work into political policy-makers. Yet, they are not elected officials. They are not answerable to the voters nor, as far as they are concerned, the law. Yet here they are with pockets filled with billions of dollars of forced dues extorted from their membership, spending that money on causes that are only at best tangentially involved with workers.

Obama Sides With the Union Goons

JammieWearingFool says: "President Barack Obama told AFL-CIO union leaders Tuesday in a videotaped address that the controversial Employee Free Choice Act will pass, signaling his full backing for legislation that makes union organizing easier.
""We will pass the Employee Free Choice Act," President Obama told more than 100 top labor officials in a closed-door meeting at the labor federation's winter gathering in Miami, according to people at the meeting.
"The bill would make it easier for unions to recruit workers because it would let them join unions simply by signing cards rather than through secret-ballot elections in which companies can campaign against the union. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other business organizations have been campaigning against the legislation."

He Employs a Political Device to Defeat the Ends of Nature

Employers who use illegal immigrant workers are breaking the law in order to escape the law of supply and demand. The use of these workers depresses wages for American workers. Many politicians who claim to be friends of unions and the working class also are in the tank for these employers who are willling to break the law in order to lower the living standard of American workers. And I've never seen this aspect of the issue adressed in any of the presidential debates or on any news or opinion show. The establishment of the two political parties and the MSM have sold out. Just one case is John Edwards who blathers on and on about fighting the power of monied interests but will give them all the cheap labor they want and screw over as many American workers as they tell him to.
