That Story About the Beating of the Jindal Aide in New Orleans Just Will Not Die

It is getting more complicated as there is now question as to whether or not the police were not making it seem less serious in an attempt to down play its severity as a part of a systemic practice of statistical manipulation. There continue to be reports that the victims believe it was politically motivated and committed by individuals protesting at the Republican fund raiser. At the Hatride there is a long post that is an accumulation of many strands and stories from many sources. Go there to get the full story. One quote from Hayride:

News story appears to grudgingly admit the obvious, that the protestors at Brennan’s produced the attack, reporter Bret Michael Dykes still manages to inject an obnoxious and insulting paragraph toward the end of the piece: "Of course, even if Bautsch and Brown’s recollection is correct and the attackers did come from the group protesting the event, they can’t know for sure what their motives were. Their account of the non-political nature of the verbal assault matches the one Brown gave police and the homophobic, misogynistic nature of the insults would be unusual coming the kind of person one might expect to protest a Republican fundraiser."
"So anarchist thugs who attack people on the streets for their political beliefs are still morally superior because only Republicans are homophobes and misogynists? Seriously? This actually made it into a story Yahoo ran on their site?"

UPDATE on Attack on Jindal Aide in French Quarter

Allee Bautsch's leg was broken in 5 places and Joe Brown, her boyfriend, had his nose broken according to Bautsch's mother when she was interviewed by Megan Kelly. Michelle Malkin counsels caution in the treatment of this story. It seems that the info about political insults preceding the attack is possibly questionable and not firmly enough founded as yet. Malkin writes:
"This was a terrible crime in the crime-infested French Quarter. Your heart cannot help but go out to the victims after reading this description. They deserve non-partisan compassion and prayers for healing.
"It doesn’t help to insist on making this a partisan cause celebre and reducing the victims to political pawns when the evidence remains murky — and especially when one of the victims himself heard no politically-motivated taunts.
"Save the ideological outrage for bona fide cases of politically motivated violence."

I Like Jindal for President But . . .

“Our federal government is currently just flinging stuff against the wall, in trillion-dollar chunks, to see what sticks. Congress’s own budget office has said the current “federal budget is on an unsustainable path” and that the Democrats’ health plan does not reduce “long-term health costs facing the government."“ Is what Bobby Jindal said a week ago. I like Bobby for president but when he made a big statement about health care a couple of weeks ago I cooled a little. He seems to know health care issues from much contact and study. But that can also weaken him since it can tend to adulterate one’s conservative values. Spending so much time and effort studying government interventions can get someone to thinking too much about how to improve those interventions rather than critically looking at whether they are sensible and constitutional at all. There is always a danger of becoming a right wing member of the establishment. But I’m looking for a leader who sees himself as part of the overall American tradition of limited government and individual rights and liberties rather than part of a competing tradition that mainly dates back to the failures of FDR.
I suspect that Bobby Jindal’s heart is in the right place. I just wish it was more obvious exactly where he stands.

I like this guy. The speech could have been better but it'll do. He covered most of the important points. I liked the little story about Sheriff Lee and Katrina rescue. If Obama had a story like that it would get front page coverage for a week. (I suspect Obama has spent much, much more time and energy covering up his past than on opening up.)
"Republicans have lost your trust and rightly so." You guys do have a lot of work to do. And, unfortunately, Obama could drasticly lower expectations.
