Interview With Steven Rattner; You Do Have To Wonder Why Ron Gettelfinger Still Has A Job

A video of a Fortune interview with Steven Rattner, former head of President Obama's auto task force at the Treasury Department. He talks about how bad the management of the auto companies was but is a little sparse on the details. I was surprised to see one Obama's economic team get so close to criticizing a big union.

Opt Out: the Latest Spitball from the Left-And "This Health Care Discussion Is A Fight Between the Left and the Far Left"

The mysterious ‘opt out’ wrinkle that has just been added to the Dem’s health care hoax is explained in Ann Coulter’s latest column. It is a hoax within a hoax. It is underhanded and dishonest.
“The most important fact about the “opt out” scheme allegedly allowing states to decline government health insurance is that a state can’t “opt out” of paying for it. All 50 states will pay for it. A state legislature can only opt out of allowing its own citizens to receive the benefits of a federal program they’re paying for.
“It’s like a movie theater offering a “money back guarantee” and then explaining, you don’t get your money back, but you don’t have to stay and watch the movie if you don’t like it. That’s not what most people are thinking when they hear the words “opt out.” The term more likely to come to mind is “scam.”"
It appears that they think they can ignore the will of the majority without much problem if they increase the amount of misdirection, deception and smoke and mirrors as the opposition increases. And while they are at it they also abuse the language and the intelligence of the voters.
The video does not deal with opt out but points out the foolishness of a party with a filibuster-proof majority blaming their problems on the powerless minority. How hard is it to get an elected official to accept responsibility for anything?

I found the video at Nice Deb.

Bush Has Deserted Obama in His Hour of Need

Two paragraphs from a Wes Pruden piece in thr Washington Times about the Virginia governor race:
"This is one Mr. Deeds who apparently isn't going to town. The collapse of the Democratic campaign for governor of Virginia speaks volumes - chapters, anyway - about what the body politic is trying to tell Barack Obama's Democrats.

"They're learning, painfully, that campaigning without George W. Bush is baffling, frustrating and scary. Worse, it offers a preview of what the congressional campaigning will be like next year. One Obama doorbell ringer, working neighborhoods in Northern Virginia for Creigh Deeds, says even the promise of free pizza can't lure faithful Democrats to a rally."

I guess the real question is why doesn't Team Obama just blame Rush Limbaugh and Fox news for everything that has gone wrong in Virginia. Maybe they could also send out Emanuel, Axelrod and Dunn to the Sunday shows to implicate Sarah Palin and Joe the Plummer as well. I'm sure they'll get lots of ground and air support from George Stephanoupolis, Keith Olbermann and Katie Couric. No matter what they say or do, those guys will back them 98% of the time.

FOX: Embrace Your NonObama Reality

FOX don't argue with the president. Be grateful to him and his surrogates for reminding the world seven times a day that you are very different from MSNBC, CNN, NBC, etc. As more and more Americans flee those Obama worshipping propaganda mills, FOX looks better every day. Do some marketing emphasizing this distinction. Maybe something along the lines of, "We're the network Obama loves to hate. Come by and see what the White House communications director is afraid of. We tell the truth so she doesn't have to." or. "You've loved talk radio for years, Now President Obama says we're just like them. Drop by and see why The Man loves to hate us."
The president and his crew don't think about the long term effects of much of what they do. I don't know but maybe that just comes along with none of them having much executive experience. Also, the lack of proper vetting cannot help. Because they are doing everything they can to freeze out FOX in the press briefing room, what if Fox doesn't just whine and snivel like a White House aide? What if FOX reporters start developing alternative sources of information? Is it possible that some of the alternative sources could make impeachment or electoral defeat inevitable? From the backgrounds and pedigrees of the president and many of those around him this has to be entertained as a serious possibility.
Below is a clip of Greta van Sustern and Tucker Carlson that I ran across at A View From the Hills. I love it when Carlson says, “David Axelrod lecturing us on honesty. Can you imagine that?”

California: "Democrats Have to Start Calling Other Democrats Out"

I'm pretty sure that's what he said. Since he was being talked over I'm not 100% sure. But his point was clear: as long as they are going to say 'yes' to everything and log roll, California will keep going broke. And the problem is the Democrats because they control the legislature but are incapable of self-control.

Leftie Health Care Reform Push Polling

Below is a large quote from a post at Ace of Spades:

"If you use the Democrats' focus-group-tested buzzwords in the question -- "compete," "option," "choose" -- you get support.

"As Kellyanne Fitzpatrick remarks, this is no surprise:

"Asking an under-informed public in a poll about "public option" is incomplete. It calls for a response to feel-good phraseology rather than a probing of underlying ideology. "Public option" in health care is not so different from "campaign finance reform," "Violence Against Women's Act," "revenue enhancements" or for that matter, "world peace' and "no rain this Saturday."
Rasmussen asks the question two ways. First, they use the liberal media's Democrat focus-group-tested terminology, and they get results congruent with the liberal media's polls.

"Then they ask a follow-up:

"Suppose that the creation of a government-sponsored non-profit health insurance option encouraged companies to drop private health insurance coverage for their workers. Workers would then be covered by the government option. Would you favor or oppose the creation of a government-sponsored non-profit health insurance option if it encouraged companies to drop private health insurance coverage for their workers?
Result? Nearly 60% disapproval."

Transparency Watch -- Lying Clowns Edition

************************************************

The next time so many senior advisors are in front of so many so called reporters maybe one could ask a pertinent question. For example, I'd really like to know why CSPAN isn't covering all of the health care negotiations like the so called president promised. Maybe our noted liar could also explain why he did not go the public financing route as he had promised he would. Maybe in the future President could pledge to resign if he fails to keep a new promise he makes. It's a good strategy since many rubes might be likely to believe the promise. And since he doesn't respect his own word and never releases any power, there is no danger of us getting stuck with Biden. Remember Biden is the guy Newsweek assures us is NOT a clown. Of course if Biden is going to keep acting and talking like he always has, to reassure the poor Democrat base that has to cover for so many lies and broken promises he might have to legally change his name to Joe I Am Not A Clown Biden. It might also help if all members of the administration refuse to have any truck with any 'news organization' that does not always refer to the Veep as. 'the great statesman Joe Biden' at all times. Use that bully pulpit to spread some bull!
But seriously folks, the next Nobel Peace Prize should go to anyone who can get Obama to honor a substantive promise. That could cut down on the jet traffic to Oslo. *****************************
**********************************************
************* UPDATE *************************
Also worthy of mention in relation to transparency is what is going on with the health care reform hoax. All work on this legislation takes place behind closed doors. We might know who we elected to congress but we have no way of knowing who is doing the actual legislative work. There is no reason to believe that any elected representative has done any writing or anything of value in any of President Obama's legislative onslaught. It is very likely lobbyists and corporate employees who are writing whatever the congressional Democrats rubber stamp. Or it could all be done by Chicago pols and ACORN and SEIU employees. The only sure thing is that no member of the House or the Senate is doing the most important work of Congress.

C.S Lewis's surviving BBC radio address

***************************************************

He proves by algebra that Hamlet's grandson is Shakespeare's grandfather and that he himself is the ghost of his own father.

The time is out of joint: O cursed spite,
That ever I was born to set it right!
*********Hamlet, act one, scene 5

What keeps Hamlet from acting? His father's ghost told him who did the killing. Why doesn't Hamlet take this information and exact revenge for his father's death? What's his problem?
Hamlet was born betwixt and between. The, ‘times were out of joint.’ The dying Age of Faith still lingers on as seen in the ghost of Hamlet’s father. But a new age was being born. And this new Age of Science could not be satisfied by the testimony of a ghost at midnight.
Hamlet played at being crazy. But if you are born in the middle of a paradigm shift, if you feel drawn towards both ideals you will feel crazy. You will always be neither fish nor fowl and you will never feel completely at home or welcomed by either ideal. The times will truly be out of joint.
The epistemological goal of the new age was the banishment of doubt and its replacement by certainly based on independently verifiable sensory experience. Thus Hamlet ended up constructing the crude experiment of putting on the play reminiscent of his father’s death and observing his uncle’s reaction. Hamlet was too much a man of his time to be able to feel comfortable with proceeding to action without satisfying the needs of the new scientific method.

crossposted at The Chinese Jar

I ran across this piece at Jo-Joe Politico and feel it needs more exposure and discussion. I'm pressed for time at the moment but as soon as I can I will add an update with a couple of objections I have to the piece.

The 545 People Responsible For All Of U.S. Woes

BY Charley Reese

(Date of publication unknown)-- -- - Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 235 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.

I excluded all but the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.

No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislation's responsibility to determine how he votes.

A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY

Don't you see how the con game that is played on the people by the politicians? Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of Tip O'Neill, who stood up and criticized Ronald Reagan for creating deficits.

The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating appropriations and taxes.

O'neill is the speaker of the House. He is the leader of the majority party. He and his fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetos it, they can pass it over his veto.

REPLACE SCOUNDRELS

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 235 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility.

I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in Lebanon, it's because they want them in Lebanon.

There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take it.

Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people and they alone are responsible. They and they alone have the power. They and they alone should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided they have the gumption to manage their own employees.

This article was first published by the Orlando Sentinel Star newspaper

*******************************************************
********************** UPDATE *************************
I have decided to just reproduce the comment I made at Joe's site on this piece since it is a fair assessment.
"At a certain point, after a series of abuses and usurpations such as we have seen recently, the individual voter comes to share some of the responsibility if he/she does not do something (like vote thoughtfully) to end the abuses.
As for the economy these 545 people have limited power. Some things are the result of forces acting from beyond our borders. There are natural cycles in the economy such as expansion and contraction of the national economy and inflation and deflation that are inevitable. Though sometimes these 545 people make the situation worse or do not meliorate it as much as they could because they take their loyalty to the lobbyists and special interests more seriously than their oath of office.
"These minor quibbles aside, I think the article from the Orlando Sentinel Star is great and cuts to the heart of the matter. I suspect I will post the whole article on my blog because it deserves as much attention as possible."

Do You Have To Be Stupid To Be a Reporter For The MSM?

**********************************************************

Surreal. The press release from a bunch of pranksters claiming to be the Chamber of Commerce and backing cap and trade was reported as actual news on some MSM outlets including Reuters. These fools would probably believe a Roman Polanski promise to stick with twenty year olds. It never occurred to Reuters that this major a policy shift deserved looking into? I heard some news reader giving the excuse that they used the proper letterhead. You have to wonder if Reuters still can't figure out why Dan Rather no longer works for CBS.

This Might Be About Health Care

Pat at And So It Goes In Shreveport has a link where you can download a PDF of the 1500 plus pages of the Baucus bill. I did NOT go looking for awkward and undescernable, this is the first paragraph I landed on at random:
" 1 ‘‘(i) IN GENERAL.—Subject to clause
2 (ii) and subparagraphs (C) and (D), the
3 service area for an MA local plan in an
4 urban area shall be the Core Based Statis5
tical Area (in this paragraph referred to as
6 a ‘CBSA’) or, if applicable, a conceptually
7 similar alternative classification, as defined
8 by the Director of the Office of Manage9
ment and Budget"

Near as I can tell the plain English translation is: "If your Senator wants your kidney, he can have it. And if you don't like it, your only court of appeal is a death panel." Or it might mean that Fox will now be 24/7 Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod doing the actual gay t.b. thing to ex news and opinion guys. Or it could mean that in the interest of longevity the Surgeon General is going to collect all guns in America. Or maybe it is just there so Max Baucus can win the Nobel Prize for Literature next year. Who knows? It has been a trying and confusing nine months.

Oh, and the same automatic yearly pay raise sounds good enough for me too. Did anyone else notice that they have engineered a mechanism whereby they no longer have to vote yearly for the raise. The bums voted in that little perk for themselves while unemployment and business failures have skyrocketed. It is getting so that the only thing Congressmen and Senators are very competent at is daily proving how unworthy of their positions of responsibility they are. And even that is not very taxing since they seldom work more than three days a week.

Victor Davis Hanson on the Nobel Peace Prize

from VDH's column at NRO:
"Prior awards to terrorists like Yasser Arafat, frauds like Rigoberta Menchú, the Stalinist Le Duc Tho, etc. had cheapened the prize as a more or less guilt-ridden multicultural nod to non-Western authoritarians. But now the postmodern prize is blatantly disconnected from even purported actions. It is predicated on hope-and-change platitudes, in hopes that they will come true. I think this is unique. Literary prizes do not go to book proposals; athletic awards are not given to preseason favorites; and military medals for planning are not given before the battle takes place. They should rename it the Nobel Dream Prize."

h/t: Palm Tree Pundit
***********************************************************
I think that the accepting the prize is going to do Obama more harm than good. Many Democrats were barely more than luke warm supporters. But, Democrats as is their habit, worry excessively about what everyone in the world thinks about the US. Many of them realize how inappropriate this award was. And many of them are beginning to realize that the award is the cherry on the sundae of Barack Obama's emerging reputation as an international laughingstock. Sure, the followers who would never have deserted him love it. But a lot of voters that might be up for grabs will be mildly nauseated by the whole sordid affair.

It Was Just A Joke: Unfortunately You Don't Have the Smarts to Understand My Humor

The White House communications person who was all over the place trying to marginalize Fox News last weekend has since been featured in a speech calling Mao one of her two favorite political philosophers. When confronted about idolizing a mass murderer Anita Dunn replied that she had merely been ironically joking but her critics lack the intelligence to understand her humor. Sorry lady, I saw the video clip. If that was an attempt at humor, you are the probably the only one of God’s creatures able to see the joke. She further attempted to shirk responsibility for her own words by saying that she had heard the quote from Lee Atwater.
This all got me to wondering if she was just trying out a new communications strategy for the Obama administration. They obviously need a lot of help. Every one in the world now knows that Team Obama is a spectacular and total failure. With the humorous and ironic side light that the only people unable to clearly see Obama’s failure are the people who are paid to understand these things; the news media doesn’t even know where to buy a clue. Now that’s the kind of ironic humor that Anita Dunn dishonestly tries to make a claim to using.
But can we soon expect someone from the Obama Administration’s super intelligent communications office to put Plan Dunn into effect? Will we soon hear a pronouncement along the lines of, “Every statement ever made by anyone in Team Obama was just a joke. We are saddened to announce that the media and all of the American people are too stupid and uneducated to understand our extremely clever wit. We decided on communicating by means these jokes because our great leader, whenever he has read any of the writings of the men who founded America, saw clearly that they could not have been serious about one word they wrote or spoke. The Great Obama was able to see through the mythology surrounding the Constitutional convention and see it for the gigantic goof that it was. Come on, only a fool would believe that average, run of the mill people are capable of governing themselves. We Democrats know better than that. That's why we have a superdelegate system in place: so that our very wise leaders maintain final control over everything. And our caucuses make it even more difficult for the mob to have much input. The inability of Americans to identify our humor and the founding joke just proves that you are all too stupid to be capable of governing yourselves. The election of a truly progressive Democrat was required to finally, after over two hundred years, put someone in the White House who actually understands America. You fools need heroes as intelligent as us to keep you from drowning in your own drool. Anyway, because of George Bush’s wild overspending we can no longer afford elections. But we will save you from yourselves.”

Even The Nation Magazine Is Turning on Obama

-A piece in the latest Nation says about the Obama administration's childish attack on Fox News:
"When Dunn was asked whether the president refused to accept interview requests from Fox because the White House sees the network as “a wing of the Republican party,” the communications director responded: “Is this why he did not appear? The answer is yes.”
"That is such a radically wrong response that it calls into question the whole communications strategy of an administration that has somehow managed to take a man who was elected with a mandate and lodge him in a corner where there are now serious questions about whether a Democratic president and an overwhelmingly Democratic Congress can enact basic elements of the Democratic agenda."
The title of the piece was 'Whiner-In-Chief.'
And some Americans are thinking that the republic has problems that make Obama's personal animus against Fox seem not even worth any effort. Yet Fox and the president's poor hurt feelings seem to be getting more attention than anything else going on. Americans expect the people they elect to the presidency to be capable of raising above such pettiness. Barack Obama is clearly incapable of summoning up the maturity required by the office.

When You Elect A Chicago Pol President He Is His Own Bagman

An AP story today said, "The same states that Obama targeted to win the White House are seeing an awful lot of the president, Vice President Joe Biden and top Cabinet officials. Only this year, the taxpayers are footing the multimillion-dollar tab for the trips, and Obama officials are delivering wheelbarrows of economic stimulus money - also compliments of taxpayers.
"An Associated Press review of administration travel records shows that three of every four official trips Obama and his key lieutenants made in his first seven months in office were to the 28 states Obama won. Add trips to Missouri and Montana - both of which Obama narrowly lost - and almost 80 percent of the administration's official domestic travel has been concentrated in states likely to be key to Obama's re-election effort in 2012."
So, basically Obama is paying off campaign debts with misappropriated taxpayer money. And the taxpayers are forced to also pay his unbelievably high travel bills. All while he spends his time and energy not doing the job he was elected to do. He has visited just about every Democrat hack in the country but our soldiers in harms way have gotten little love from him and he has paid little attention to their mission and its needs. Obama has no respect for the US and is doing everything he can to turn us into a banana republic.

Since We Daily Face New Abuses and Usurpations It Becomes Difficult to Remember Many of the Early Manifestations of Treachery

It has been frequently
remarked that it seems to have been reserved to the people of this
country, by their conduct and example, to decide the important
question, whether societies of men are really capable or not of
establishing good government from reflection and choice, or whether
they are forever destined to depend for their political
constitutions on accident and force. If there be any truth in the
remark, the crisis at which we are arrived may with propriety be
regarded as the era in which that decision is to be made; and a
wrong election of the part we shall act may, in this view, deserve
to be considered as the general misfortune of mankind. Federalist #1

The Finest Links in All of Christendom

Jo-Joe Politico has a post about the source of America's greatness. He quotes de Tocqueville who said, "Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America ceases to be great."

Another Black Conservative has some thoughts on the Nobel Prize: " With three years to go in his presidency and oh so much to go wrong, this award has the ability to make Obama an international joke and America a complete laughingstock for electing such an unqualified man.
"Obama for the sake of American pride and your own self image, turn this award down!"

"How This Ex-Liberal Found Fortitude and Her Way Home" The Anita MonCrief Story

It is in the Green Room at Hot Air. Anita MonCrief, the courageous woman who has been working to expose the criminal activity she saw from within ACORN, shares some of her back ground and her experiences growing comfortable with the wild mobs of tea partiers. I'm including a long quote but the whole piece deserves reading. And please stop by and thank Anita for so resolutely taking a stand.

"Friends who are still radicals rail at me for loving a country that enslaved us, and I tell them I don’t. I love a country that had the guts to stand up time and time again and right a wrong. A country that is not afraid to pick itself up and start again.

"The media, think tanks and leftist organizations paint the right as hate mongers and I believed it for a number of years. Going to events like the Defending the American Dream Summit this past weekend continues to enlighten me. I find warm, regular people who have traveled and taken time off to be there. It was not a gathering of paid hacks, or reporters patting themselves on the back for Van Jones. Moms, dads, nurses, doctors, bloggers and people from all over America, discussed the state of our country and their fears for the world their children would be inheriting.

"Comparing it to a leftist conference I went to in 2007 I was amazed at how helpful and open the staff and sponsors were. No egos here. Tim Phillips went out of his way to accommodate those of us who ended up in the overflow room after an expected surge of attendees. The next day, I spoke on a panel and was overwhelmed by the support in the room. Conservatives seemed to be more accepting of differences and willing to listen and respond to others without attacking or belittling them.

"Putting political ideology aside for a moment, I will tell anyone that there has been a certain amount of inner peace that I have never had before and I have noticed more harmony in my family. For the first time in my adult life I can honestly say that I am not at war with myself or the world. I never knew that by changing my political beliefs that I would find my faith, change the course of my life and end a self destructive pattern of victimhood."

A Garden, Written after the Civil War

SEE how the flowers, as at parade,
Under their colours stand display'd:
Each regiment in order grows,
That of the tulip, pink, and rose.
But when the vigilant patrol
Of stars walks round about the pole,
Their leaves, that to the stalks are curl'd,
Seem to their staves the ensigns furl'd.
Then in some flower's beloved hut
Each bee, as sentinel, is shut,
And sleeps so too; but if once stirr'd,
She runs you through, nor asks the word.
O thou, that dear and happy Isle,
The garden of the world erewhile,
Thou Paradise of the four seas
Which Heaven planted us to please,
But, to exclude the world, did guard
With wat'ry if not flaming sword;
What luckless apple did we taste
To make us mortal and thee waste!
Unhappy! shall we never more
That sweet militia restore,
When gardens only had their towers,
And all the garrisons were flowers;
When roses only arms might bear,
And men did rosy garlands wear?
